NEUROSPOT

“NeuroSpot” is a patent- granted software application Ventriculostomy is one of the basic neurosurgical techniques in emergency and elective settings in order to drain the cerebrospinal fluid by opening a small hole in the skull and using a tiny tube to alleviate the pressure inside the brain. Despite there are reliable craniometric points to open a burr hole in the skull; misplacement of burr holes still poses a significant problem world wise; particularly in emergency cases. NeuroSpot as a PC and mobile phone application eliminates this problem by pointing the optimum burr hole point on the head of the patient. Introduction of the patient face and head to the “mobile phone” camera from front view for few seconds is the main feature of this application; once the optimum burr hole point is determined by the software, red signal turns to green and exact entry point on the skull is pointed. This app appears a useful adjunct to further verify the optimum entry point on the skull for particularly neurosurgery residents, and young neurosurgery specialists.
